Graven Hill’s Civil Engineering contractors, Careys, will be undertaking significant improvement work to the Rodney House roundabout on the A41 at the entrance to the site, where the A41 meets London Road, Bicester and the A4421.

The works are due to commence shortly and will be ongoing until October 2018, with lane closures planned and traffic management measures in place throughout the period.

Upgrading the current traffic island to a signalised roundabout will deliver a safer environment for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists by reducing speeds on the approaches to the island and providing safe crossing points.

Works at the roundabout will include the widening of the approaches and the introduction of traffic light-controlled push button crossing points with guard railings and splitter islands to create a safe, protected environment for those aiming to cross the carriageway.

Throughout the construction period the traffic management systems will be manned during peak hours, ensuring that traffic flow can be monitored and maximised.

There are currently no plans to close the road or create diversions and wherever possible the traffic management will be removed at weekends to minimise impact. The majority of construction activity will be carried out during normal hours.

Once completed, the roads on the roundabout will be signal controlled by the MOVA system which predominantly lends itself to maintaining consistent flows of traffic. The junction will also be linked to Urban Traffic Control via a CCTV camera and fibre connection which will enable them to override the system should there be excessive build-up of traffic, say for example bank holidays and Christmas shopping periods.

Graven Hill would like to apologise for any inconvenience that these essential road works cause and looks forward to delivering a safer environment for all road users around the entrance to the site.
