There are various ways to manage your build
Build it yourself, or get someone else to organise it for you?
Some people really want to do all the building work themselves; others are prepared to do part of the work (eg fit the kitchen and do the decorating); and in some instances people really don’t fancy doing any of the construction work – in which case, if they have the resources, they may want to employ a builder or a specialist custom build developer to manage everything on their behalf. Do it on your own, or work with others to organise your new home?
Some people like the idea of working with others (it can help to reduce the costs, and you get to know your neighbours, so it builds a strong community bond). If you are open to participating in a group self build project let us know. Groups often link up people with a similar interest – so, for example, families with young children, or elderly people who like the idea of living alongside each other is a supportive way.
Own it outright, part own or rent?
Some people are only interested in owning their new home. Others on limited incomes might be attracted by the idea of part owning/part renting (and perhaps buying the bit they rent at a later stage when their incomes go up). Others are keen to rent a property. 30% of new homes constructed at Graven Hill will be will be available for shared ownership or rent.
